Humanitarian Mission: MARCH 2023

Swisscross team join Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) at their health facility in Al Salaam Hospital, Mosul, Iraq.

For almost two years, Swisscross has been building the capacity and reach of the Centre of Excellence for Complex Care in Erbil and expanding its mission to provide reconstructive surgery to some of the most vulnerable communities in the world including refugees, displaced peoples, survivors of gender-based violence and low-income individuals.

Our volunteers hit the ground running in preparation for March’s humanitarian mission, visiting the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) health facility at Al Salaam Hospital  in Mosul, Iraq.

Last year Swisscross signed a Letter of Intent with MSF to collaborate in the care of injured patients in Iraq. This week we began our first official collaboration.

For the upcoming March mission we were joined by multiple award winning, consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. Mr Sarkhell Radha and our local team Drs Sarmad Nashat, Sarezh Saber and Lass Azad.

Swisscross were able to screen 25 patients over almost six hours including children who are in need of surgical interventions for injuries sustained and neglected for years.

Many of these patients will be prepped over the coming days and weeks for reconstructive and restorative surgery.

Over the next ten days our team of surgeons, nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals will be screening patients at the Centre in Erbil, performing orthopedic, maxillofacial and plastic surgeries, along with visiting refugee camps to meet new patients.

Thank you to all our volunteers and to UAE Aid for their generosity in making this mission a possibility.
